Curriculum

First Year

All first year pupils are given an orientation course within the first few weeks of the school year. It is designed to help pupils through the sometimes difficult transition from primary to secondary school. It is presented by teachers and deals with issues such as study techniques, timetables, discipline, making friends, communication skills and coping with peer pressure, etc.

First Year Subjects:

Irish, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, French, German, Science, Civic Social & Political Education, Religion, Social Political & Health Education (S.P.H.E.), Physical Education, Computer Studies, Wellbeing.

Pupils take three other subjects (one from each block) to Junior Certificate level. The subjects are arranged in blocks from the following:

German or French,

Business or Technology,

Technical Graphics or Art or Music

Each student will be given a "taster" of each of the above subjects before making his choice in each block.

Junior Cycle

Beginning in Second Year,  all students study the following core subjects to Junior Cycle: Irish, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, C.S.P.E., S.P.H.E., Religion, Wellbeing and PE

Pupils take three other subjects (one from each block which they have chosen in 1st year) to Junior Certificate level. The subjects are arranged in blocks from the following:

German or French,

Business or Technology,

Technical Graphics or Art or Music

Each pupil is given every opportunity to take higher level in all subjects in the Junior Certificate examination.

Transition Year

Over 95% of out students take Transition Year. It is available to pupils who have completed their Junior Certificate. It is optional and places are allocated after application and interview.

Subjects (all year round):

Irish, English, Mathematics, French or German, Religion, Career Guidance, Physical Education, Computer Studies, LCVP, History, Geography, Business, Economics, Accounting, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, DCG

Modules (half year):

Mini-Company, Media Studies, Water Safety, Work Experience and Vocational Preparation, Music, Art, Social Work, Road Safety, Cookery, First Aid, Public Speaking, President's Awards, Goal Project, Philosophy, Coaching, Future Leaders and Chinese Studies.

Leaving Certificate

All Leaving Certificate pupils are required to take the following subjects for Leaving Certificate Examination: 

Irish, English, Mathematics

Students must choose four subjects from subject-choice below. (Blocks are based on student survey and may vary from year to year)

DCG, Applied Maths, Agricultural Science, Biology, Business, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Art, Economics, French, Accounting, German, Construction Studies, History, Music, Politics and Society (New subject)

Religion and PE are taught to all senior cycle students

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (L.C.V.P)

This programme can be taken by fifth and sixth year pupils. It is a very beneficial programme which helps to improve presentation and computer skills. It allows students to gain valuable points for entry to I.T.s and Universities and is a valuable addition to a student's C.V.
