MISSION STATEMENT

 

St. Colman's College was founded in 1856 as the Cloyne Diocesan College.
 

Our aims are:


To nurture the full academic and personal development of all in the school community.

To enhance the self-esteem of each person in an environment of mutual respect.

To attempt, as a Catholic school, to apply the caring values of the Gospel to all aspects of our school life.

To foster good relationships within the school, with parents and with the local community.

School Uniform

Grey trousers, grey pullover with College crest, grey shirt, College tie and black shoes. The College jacket is also available for purchase in the College and is the only outer garment permitted to be worn inside classrooms. The College jacket can be purchased for approximately €50.

The uniform may be purchased from the following outlets:

School Books

A book list will be published on school website and posted to prospective pupils during the summer prior to recommencement of school. Pupils will be instructed to keep their books and other valuables in their designated classroom lockers and to take good care of their property.

Book Rental Scheme

A limited Book Rental Scheme operates for First Year students. It allows students to rent language books (Irish, French and German) as well as Business.

 


Piano Lessons.

Piano lessons, for which a fee is charged, are available and given in the school Music Rooms by Mr. Aidan Duggan.


School Transport

All pupils who are eligible for public school transport will receive an application form before the start of the school year.


School Journal

All pupils are required to have a school journal. A Code of Behaviour is printed on the inside of the front and back covers of the journal. A collaborative approach affords pupils the best opportunity to get the most out of life at school and the journal is a useful means of communication between parents and teachers. Parents are requested to check the journal regularly, to ensure that the homework for each subject is written in and that notes from teachers are countersigned. Journals are available from Class Tutors on the first day of term at a cost of €10 each.


Guidance and Counselling

The Guidance Counsellor, Mrs. Veronica O'Donoghue provides advice and counselling on subject choices, career development, College development, College options, C.V.s, C.A.O./U.C.A.S. and career application forms, as well as personal counselling. She is available for consultation by appointment.


Learning Support Service

A Learning Support Service is provided for pupils with learning difficulties. Further information from Ms. Claire McCarthy (025)31080 / 31622


School Chaplain

Fr. Eamonn Barry, the College Chaplain, provides pastoral support for pupils. He meets them individually and in class groups on a regular basis.


Study

Evening Study is supervised by College Teachers. 

 

Monday-Thursday:    3:55-5:20   &   5:30-7:00

Friday:                      3:55-4:55   &    5:00 - 6.00

 

Term 1 :  September to Christmas

Term 2:    January  to Summer

Supervised study is available on Saturday Mornings from 9.30am - 12.30pm

(9.30am - 3.00pm after Christmas).

It is also provided during Holiday periods for exam students where possible.

It is recommended that First Year pupils do one and a half hours study each evening.


Class Tutor and Year Head

Each class has a Class Tutor who deals with the day-to-day problems and concerns of pupils.

Each year has a Year Head whose task is to record pupil attendance, to monitor the progress of each pupil and to liaise with parents.

Ms. Michele Bourke is the Year Head for First Years.
